Smartmatic Voting Machine
Smartmatic is a leading provider of election technology and services based in Panama, offering governments worldwide a portfolio of solutions to modernise elections and promote citizen participation. Designit approached me to join their team on this project. From concept and product development, we worked with Smartmatic to create an efficient and auditable voting machine.
We designed a more inclusive and adaptable system to facilitate voting and increase voter participation while maintaining a rigorous level of security. The final result was a fully working set of prototypes with a high level of finish. The product has since been industrialised at Smartmatic’s production facilities in Taiwan. In October 2018, local elections in Belgium were carried out with the product for the first time using Smartmatic’s technology to let 3.7 million voters vote independently and conveniently.
Working with a globally present team like Designit, that really cared about understanding our needs and goals, was the best option to support us in designing an inclusive, secure, and intuitive voting system.
